Don’t be a fool in April, don’t drink and drive. I appeared with my client in Milton, GA., Municipal Court to fight his DUI traffic ticket. This client was stopped for a failure to maintain lane violation, and then he was arrested and charged with DUI. The DUI becomes the most significant charge, because jail time is a real possibility, and losing his driving privileges is a possibility. Following considerable negotiation with the prosecutor, I got the court to agree to drop the failure to maintain lane charge, and reduce the DUI charge to reckless driving. My client must attend an alcohol and substance abuse class and perform multiple hours of community service. This is a very good outcome for this client, because he will not have a DUI conviction on his permanent record. Representing a client with a DUI in Alpharetta, Georgia. I’m in Alpharetta Municipal Court representing my client who was charged with a DUI. This is his first in a lifetime DUI charge. Following lengthy negotiation with the prosecutor, I was able to get my client’s charge reduced to reckless driving. This is an important victory for my client, because he will not have a DUI conviction on his record. Pleading to a reckless driving charge is substantially less damaging to one’s driving record than a DUI conviction. Fighting UGA student's speeding in Duluth, GA. Court On Tuesday, March 22, 2018, I appeared for my client in the Duluth Municipal Court. My client who is under 21 years of age, is a full-time student at the University of Georgia. She was not able to attend court. My client was charged with speeding, traveling 67 mph in a 45 mph zone. This is a super speeder ticket because it is 22 mph over the limit. If my client was found guilty for this charge, she would have 3 points added to her Georgia driving record. Following negotiations with the prosecutor, I was able to get the court to reduce the speed to 14 mph over the limit. At 14 MPH over the limit makes her ticket a simple speeding ticket. My client will be required to attend defensive driving school and a special defensive driving class given by the City of Duluth. This must be completed by 6/18/18, and she is also required to pay a fine of $214. After this is completed, her charge will not be reported to the Georgia Department of driver services. Her insurance company will not find out about this issue. On Friday, March 16, 2018, I appeared with my client in the Dunwoody Municipal Court. My client who is a young female had been arrested for shoplifting at Walmart. Following considerable negotiation with the prosecutor, I was able to get the court to agree to pretrial diversion. This will allow my client to earn a dismissal of the shoplifting charge and a restriction of her arrest record. My client will have to perform community service and attend shoplifting classes. She has concerns about the renewal of her immigration status. So, in an effort to expedite this process, I convinced the court to allow my client to appear on the first available date as a walk-in, so all of this could be completed before her immigration renewal.
