On this day in history July 2, 1964 present Lyndon Johnson signs the civil right bill that held racial segregation in schools was unconstitutional. This act outlawed discrimination in public places such as schools, school buses, and swimming pools.
On July 2, 1776, the second Continental Congress formally adopt the resolution of independence from Great Britain. This resolution was edited by Thomas Jefferson and went into effect on July 4, 1776, as The Declaration of Independence
On this day July 2, 1881, President James a Garfield was shot by an assassin. He died 80 days later from complications of the shooting.
