Police Chief Franklin Allen of Jonesboro has confirmed the death of Monica Murphy from a head-on collision.
Ms. Murphy, age 41, was in the passenger seat of a van being driven by Frankie Murphy. At 1:15 p.m. on May 31, former Atlantic Hawks point guard Mookie Blaylock hit the van head-on when he crossed the median into oncoming traffic on Tara Boulevard heading sound of North Avenue near Jonesboro. Mookie Blaylock was driving a Cadillac Escalade. His car is now almost completely smashed from the damage of the head on collision from Friday.
Mookie Blaylock, Frankie Murphy, and Monica Murphy were all taken to the Atlanta Medical Center. Frankie suffered from a broken ankle and Blaylock is now in serious condition instead of critical condition a day after the auto accident that took Monica’s life.
People may remember Mookie Blaylock from when he played for 13 years in the NBA, seven of which were with the Atlanta Hawks. It is unclear as of right now the full cause of the crash, but there is a bench warrant out for Blaylock for DUI and drug charges related to the accident.
